The AHTA Conference Committee is pleased to offer you two fantastic pre-conference workshop options. Both of these workshops will be held at the Stamford Grand, Glenelg on Thursday 21st September 2017. Please see below for more details.

Mobilisation of the Neuroimmune System - The Upper Limb

Tim Cocks

mobilise verb; to prepare, to awaken and to move

The human nervous system is electrically, physically, mechanically and chemically continuous, from our brains to the tips of our fingers and toes. As we breathe, undertake work or sport, and as we move through life, the nervous system slides and glides through various tunnels, around joints and between layers of soft tissues. But the nervous system can no longer be considered in isolation, with a well established literature now requiring thinking in terms of the neuroimmune system. The immune bit adds complexity, but is also invites a deeper understanding and offers new opportunities for treatment.

This one day workshop will:

  • Provide a basic knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurodynamics, neuroimmunology and neuropathology related to manual examination of the nervous system
  • Integrate the sciences of clinical reasoning, neurodynamics and neuroimmune biology
  • Teach safe and effective diagnostic and patient management skills using skilled and careful handling
  • Deliver improved therapeutic narratives for explaining painful conditions related to an altered nervous system

While safe and effective handling skills are stressed, participants are responsible for their own well-being during practical work. If you suffer from an injury or disease, be particularly careful during practical work or do not volunteer as a subject

The AHTA Committee is thrilled to have Tim Cocks facilitate this pre-conference workshop for a discounted rate of $250.00

Connecting the neck, shoulder, elbow and hand - simplifying the neuro-myo fascial-skeletal system

Kathryn Phillips

An opportunity for an interactive upper quadrant anatomy review before the conference gets properly underway. In particular we will look at the neural pathways from spinal cord to elbow and the fascial and musculo-skeletal obstacles that are encountered along the way. We will get to practice treatment options for these proximal problem areas that may be confounding some of the distal symptoms that we see regularly in the Hand Therapy clinic.

Be ready to palpate and be palpated, to learn some techniques that can help your own upper quadrant as well as your patients, and (finally!) work out where the brachial plexus sits in relation to surface anatomy.
